Venezuela’s presidential elections delayed until May: Jorge Rodriguez

nsnbc : Venezuelan Communications Minister Jorge Rodriguez said the government had reached an agreement with several opposition parties to delay the presidential elections by one month.

Ironically, the PSUV will get exactly "the super election" the opposition feared.

Ironically, the PSUV will get exactly “the super election” the opposition feared.

Rodriguez made the announcement after signing an agreement Thursday with representatives of several parties that broke off the main opposition coalition over its decision to boycott the April 22 presidential elections.

The opposition coalition considers the presidential elections as rigged in favor of incumbent President Nicolas Maduro and the ruling socialist party PSUV.

The opposition coalition has vowed to boycott the election unless the government moves to ensure fair and transparent elections. One of the demands has been delaying the vote, giving parties more time to prepare after the administration had called for snap elections.

Rodriguez didn’t give a precise date, but said it would take place in the second half of May and would now coincide with elections for local city councils and state legislatures nationwide. Ironically this move now turns the elections into the “super-elections” the opposition initially feared.
