Kremlin spokesman tries weasel words to evade truth about Kadyrov’s gay purge

nsnbc : Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, on Monday tried a weasel word strategy when he claimed the words of Ramzan Kadyrov, very often, were taken out of context. Kadyrov caused an international scandal when he claimed that there are no gays in Chechnya, and, that the interviewing reporter should take them to Canada to “purify our blood”.

Ramzan Kadyrov_HBO interview_Jul 2017Speaking with the Russian State news agency Tass, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that the words of Ramzan Kadyrov, the President of the Russian Federation’s Chechen Republic should not be taken out of context.

“As for Kadyrov’s interview, frankly speaking, very often his words are taken out of context,” Peskov told reporters, acknowledging that these were “rather harsh deliberations.” “But they should be viewed only in the context and considered in the context, nothing out of the unusual was said there,” Peskov stressed.

Naturally, it would only be fair towards Peskov and Kadyrov alike, not to take any words out of their context, so below is the video with the interview.

Kadyrov was responding to reports that security forces in the Chechen Republic had detained, tortured, and even killed gay men. In April, the Russian investigative newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported on secret prisons in Chechnya where gay men were allegedly detained and tortured. Last week, the newspaper published the names of 27 detainees it believes were murdered by Chechen security forces.

So what did Kadyrov say, other than trying to deflect attention focus from Chechnya to Canada or the USA? “Why did he come here, what’s the point of these questions?.. . This is nonsense! .. We don’t have these kind of people here. We don’t have any gays. Id there are any, take them to Canada, Praise be God. Take them far from us so we don’t have them at home. To purify our blood, if there are any here, take them. …. They are devils, the are for sale, they are not people.”
