Donald Trump_USA_May 2017Troubled by scandals at home, Trump told reporters on Thursday “We look forward to getting this whole situation behind us”.

“This whole situation” includes controversies about the firing of former FBI Director James Comey amid allegations Trump wanted Comey to stop investigating formers national security adviser Michael Flynn, questions about his alleged ties with Russia during the presidential election, as well as allegations he revealed classified material to Russia’s foreign minister during a meeting in the Oval Office.

In Saudi Arabia, Trump is set to deliver a speech about Islam before a group of Muslim leaders. H.R. McMaster, Trump’s national security adviser, said the president is hopeful for the emergence of a peaceful vision of Islam. Trump’s initiative to limit immigration from a number of Muslim majority countries have widely been misrepresented as “anti-Islamic” while Trump explicitly stressed the measure aimed at preventing potential terrorists from entering the USA without proper vetting.

His visit to Saudi Arabia is expected with anticipation by those who speculate about his administration’s policy with regard to Saudi Arabia’s sponsorship of terrorist organizations, as well as the Saudi – Iranian war / proxy war in Yemen.

Trump’s visit to Israel will also be scrutinized due to following his alleged disclosure of Israeli intelligence to Russian officials. High-ranking members of his administration dismissed allegations about irregularities saying that sharing information about international terrorist organizations is not unusual. Both Israelis, Palestinians and the international community will also scrutinize Trumps visit to Israel for clues about his administration’s policy about the Israeli – Palestinian conflict.

Trump will also go to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis who has said he will not make any judgments about Trump before meeting him. He will then go to Belgium, where he will meet with NATO members in Brussels before ending his trip in the Sicilian town of Taormina for a G-7 summit.
