nsnbc , - Egyptian military personnel have arrested a member of the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood organization Hamas in the North Sinai district of the North African country. The arrests followed the recent car bomb attack against Egypt's Central Security Service.

The arrests followed the recent car bomb attack against Egypt’s Central Security Service.

Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) quotes military spokesperson Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali as saying, that units of the second field army, on Wednesday 25 December, managed to apprehend the Palestinian national Gomaa Khamis Mohamed Brika.

Brika, who is a member of the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood organization Hamas, and who reportedly does not have any permanent residence, was apprehended while he was driving a white Mercedes with Egyptian North Sinai license plates.

SIS reports that Brica, after being interrogated, admitted that he was planning to carry out a bomb attack against a vital Egyptian security facility.

Law enforcement authorities in the North Sinai district also apprehended Ahmed Azmi Hassan, known to be one of the hard core Takfirist elements in Arish, together with Ossama Ahmed Ashur Badawy, who is known for being one of the Takfirist’s financiers.

Military spokesperson Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali also reported, that army and police units have destroyed 28 huts in the North Sinai district, which have been used as hideouts for terrorists, and that army and police raids in al-Kantara, Sarabyoum and Tell el-Kabir resulted in the arrest of 34 members of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood as well as the arrest of four fugitives who still have to serve prison terms.

The arrests were made against the backdrop of an increased number of terrorist attacks against high-profile targets, and subsequent to the referral of Mohammed Morsi and leading Muslim Brotherhood members to the criminal court on charges, including espionage, terrorism and premeditated murder.

Following the latest car bomb attack against the headquarters of the Central Security Directorate, the government has designated the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.
