Shocking Report from Medical Insiders

F. William Engdahl (NEO) : A shocking admission by the editor of the world’s most respected medical journal, The Lancet, has been virtually ignored by the mainstream media. Dr. Richard Horton, Editor-in-chief of the Lancet recently published a statement declaring that a shocking amount of published research is unreliable at best, if not completely false, as in, fraudulent.

Richard Horton_The Lancet_USA_NEO_JUn 2015Horton declared, “Much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness.”

To state the point in other words, Horton states bluntly that major pharmaceutical companies falsify or manipulate tests on the health, safety and effectiveness of their various drugs by taking samples too small to be statistically meaningful or hiring test labs or scientists where the lab or scientist has blatant conflicts of interest such as pleasing the drug company to get further grants. At least half of all such tests are worthless or worse he claims. As the drugs have a major effect on the health of millions of consumers, the manipulation amounts to criminal dereliction and malfeasance.

The drug industry-sponsored studies Horton refers to develop commercial drugs or vaccines to supposedly help people, used to train medical staff, to educate medical students and more.

Horton wrote his shocking comments after attending a symposium on the reproducibility and reliability of biomedical research at the Wellcome Trust in London. He noted the confidentiality or “Chatham House” rules where attendees are forbidden to name names: “’A lot of what is published is incorrect.’ I’m not allowed to say who made this remark because we were asked to observe Chatham House rules. We were also asked not to take photographs of slides.”

Other voices

Dr. Marcia Angell is a physician and was longtime Editor-in-Chief of the New England Medical Journal (NEMJ), considered to be another one of the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals in the world. Angell stated,

“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of the New England Journal of Medicine.”

Harvey Marcovitch, who has studied and written about the corruption of medical tests and publication in medical journals, writes, “studies showing positive outcomes for a drug or device under consideration are more likely to be published than ‘negative’ studies; editors are partly to blame for this but so are commercial sponsors, whose methodologically well-conducted studies with unfavorable results tended not to see the light of day…”

At the University of British Columbia’s Neural Dynamics Research Group in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Dr Lucija Tomljenovic obtained documents that showed that, “vaccine manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and health authorities have known about multiple dangers associated with vaccines but chose to withhold them from the public. This is scientific fraud, and their complicity suggests that this practice continues to this day.”

Lancet’s Dr. Horton concludes, “Those who have the power to act seem to think somebody else should act first. And every positive action (eg, funding well-powered replications) has a counter-argument (science will become less creative). The good news is that science is beginning to take some of its worst failings very seriously. The bad news is that nobody is ready to take the first step to clean up the system.

Corruption of the medical industry worldwide is a huge issue, perhaps more dangerous than the threat of all wars combined. Do we have such hypnosis and blind faith in our doctors simply because of their white coats that we believe they are infallible? And, in turn, do they have such blind faith in the medical journals recommending a given new wonder medicine or vaccine that they rush to give the drugs or vaccines without considering these deeper issues?

  1. The medical establishment’s relationship to health is, in many respects, no different than the military establishment’s relationship to peace.. Without wars they’d go out of business. Both entities are to a certain extent, in the business of keeping themselves in business. Caveat Emptor.

    • Marsha McClelland says:

      Amen to that Victoria.

    • D says:

Perhaps an overall valid point, however, the military does not need war to stay in business and does not need to create war to stay in business. The military is there to defend our nation and interests, not to produce income for itself. The military does not need to create war to stay in business as there is already so much in the world that if that was all it wanted it would just join one of the many already in existence. As for the medical establishment, keeping people sick to keep business for the medical establishment is silly as many diseases evolve and new diseases always being discovered. That some people are only in the field for the money and that yes, some people back stab the people they swore to help is a real problem.
      Thank You!

    • Gary says:

Yes …the simplicity of your statement is perfect and inline with simple other facts like why would the pharmaceutical industry want a cure for cancer. A 10 billion dollar industry with a lot of people drawing 6 figure incomes from it. A cure is the last thing they want.

      • Gary, you hit the nail right on the head! It really is inconceivable the income generated by “curing” cancer.

      • Martin Matko says:

Multiple Sclerosis pharmaceuticals are a $14-60 Billion dollar a year industry. Pharmaceutical companies are the backbone of the MS Society, as they endlessly fundraise on their claim of a lie to end MS forever !

    • Obi says:

Depressing and true in many respects Victoria – I advocate natural medicine and we have to remind the people to trust, all the time.

  2. MacD says:

Maybe it is being ignored because of the Lancet’s own publishing of questionable science?

  3. Sue Tretter says:

To MacD, I don’t think so. Did you notice the quote from Dr Marcia Angell, former editor of NEMJ? She said it’s “no longer possible to believe …”

  4. As more abandon the big media, more will find out about this the same way we have found out, who have commented here. Also, there are some special populations, growing, who are motivated to prevent others from suffering the harm that they have. It’s a matter of time when this information is more widely known than just to research addicts.

  5. But the medical companies ARE creating more patients. They do their best to make us doctors put the cut-off point as low as passive, so as to make us prescribe medicin to patients who may not benefit from it. There is no medicine without side effects, and with a minimum of manipulation of statistics, it looks as if My patient might live longer on pills than without.

  6. Hal says:

Even the NDA (New Drug Applications) ownership is retained by the drug companies. You can’t imagine how “nice” it is to be able to delete any tables that show too much info. Just ask Bayer about the tables they deleted for Ciprofloxacin. The pages now listed as “Redundancy Deleted” actually contained over 50 adverse reactions. Yes, NDAs need to be owned by the FDA!

  7. Cyranorox says:

Use this lens to see the ‘obesity epidemic’ for what it is: a false creation of the diet and weight ‘loss’ industries. Yes, a lot of people are fat, but fat is not killing them. Shame, diets, bad foods of various sorts, environmental stressors, poverty, etc are killing them. The Fat Wars, like the Culture Wars, are a sham.

    • I believe much you said is correct. But fat is killing people. type II diabetes is directly related to fat creating insulin resistance. I have seen over and over diabetes totally controlled with the loss of FAT. I didn’t say weight, muscle weight is a plus. 9 out of 10 diabetes I check have high fat percentage and low muscle percentage…..even in the ones that don’t look fat.

  8. von says:

Lobbyists push the FDA ban them from Washington forever. Killing or maiming the innocent producing “bad drugs” is unacceptable and the only people benefitting are the drug manufacturers, lawyers, and lobbyists!

  9. ron says:

One white lie leads to another lie leads to one big lie. They will pay the price some day. Good luck to those that are responsible judgements day is around the corner.

  10. Peter Kemp says:

Horton went on the radio (ABC Australia) to defend the PACE Trial which the Lancet allowed to have fast-track peer review, even thought the trial had taken ~6 years. Horton obviously had not even read the paper he published and promoted, because it actually proved the exact opposite of what he and the equally misleading authors of the paper claimed. What a hypocrite.

  11. John says:

Who the hell do you have to trust you’re Doctor or pharmacist or the drug companies.

    • E says:

I would not be alive today if it were not for drugs. Having said that, I try my best not to take them. I trust my doctors, they have the medical knowledge that I lack. If I did not trust my doctor I would find another one.

      • Many WOULD be alive today who are not but for their medications and doctors and operations and treatments which were not needed or which did them no good or which did them harm greater than the good or were not doing what they claimed to be doing.

  12. trueanalysis.eu says:

I believe this is true, because this is happening in whole science, not just medicine. And the science gets tied with business more and more closely every day. If no one sees the danger of this, we may as well be doomed. Money literally do buy everything today. Even research.

The best example may be the mobile industry. Of course most people simply believe it has to be safe, otherwise it would not be allowed. That’s a major mistake. It is well known (among the experts) and researched since as long as 1960’s, that microwave radiation has serious non-thermal effect on living organisms, even on so called low energies (which are about 10^15 higher than natural background in ~1Ghz range). Many of those effects are adverse health effects.

Yet the “safety limits” are set only based on thermal effects of microwaves. Yes, seriously. It’s 2015 and the business managed to tackle the truth known and described in 1960 and confirmed by more than 2000 scientific studies since (see bioinitiative.org). The business managed to do so, among other activities, by extensive financing of research. The research with the right kind of results of course.

When some business-funded researcher found adverse health effects (and that wasn’t exactly rare), he was tagged an amateur, his work was literally torn apart, and his career ended quickly. The business then financed 10 other studies which showed everything is safe and smooth. The few researches who survived are struggling to get any kind of financing.

So we have scientists (Olle Johansson, Magda Havas…), neurosurgeons (Keith Black…), ex-military experts (Barrie Trower…), most of them urging us to take action against the biggest biological test ever carried out on whole human population. We have an European parliament commission paper which urges to adopt much stricter standards and reduce exposure to kids.

Yet NOTHING happens. And people rarely are aware, there is any risk at all, conected to mobile phones and primarily mobile masts.
Sorry for the length of this.

  13. Bonnie says:

For years, I have been saying, “There is a LOT of money in keeping people sick.” Just consider all the jobs that would be lost, if doctors worked to KEEP people healthy, rater than treating them after they become sick, with drugs that tend to make them even sicker. Prevention is much better than trying to find a cure. Though many in my family has died from cancer,I long ago stopped donating to the Canadian Cancer Society. I honestly believe that cures for cancer HAVE BEEN FOUND, but like the honest researchers, those who found the cure were “taken care of”,lost their licenses, put out of their practices, had equipment confiscated, etc. Big Pharma does not want the truth to be known,to its shame. Moneyis more important to them than lives. I also don’t believe that doctors are unaware that the studies are falsified, but they continue to dish out pills, even when not indicated as being necessary or helpful. Shame on the whole medical profession, pharmacies, government agencies that are to protect people from harm, and anyone else who could change all of this.

    • SF says:

Agree. I’ve also lost trust in the cancer, heart disease, etc. NGOs. Originally well-meaning agencies that became self-perpetuating career-making machines delivering useless, watered-down information. The worst are the children’s cancer ones; the press won’t critically examine massive environmental role toxins MUST be playing in pediatric cancer rates and the hospitals rake in millions for children’s cancer units and all the accompanying BigPharma/chemo/radiation ‘treatments’.

  14. NCameron says:

Every industry suffers this problem, generating some low quality output.
There are regulatory tools that can be applied.
    We call them STANDARDS.

If this is happening, it happens because of a lack of standards or an absurdly low standard.
Whenever building standards are found to be incapable of preventing low quality & dangerous outcomes, the building codes are updated accordingly and enforced in the design and Construction industries.
Why is this principle not being applied in the scientific community?

    • Nicolas says:

I think poor standards are one reason, and greed and corruption are another. This article doesn’t give us any idea about the ratio of poor quality vs fraudulent vs non-published articles, but that would be a helpful figure to know!

  15. Mike says:

No, I think Victoria hit the nail on the head. The “Military Industrial Complex” is run by Govt’s and funded by corporations and they need a steady stream of arms to sell and monies to evolve the war machine. If you think wars are not fueled or even ignited by greed and power, that must be fed continuously, you are naive at best. The medical profession brings in the same kind of tax revenues/profits the MIC brings in and to slow the flow of that continuous tax base and profit making and you lose hundreds of millions of dollars. Money makes policy today…..in war, in medicine, in all aspects of society, money is king and the corporate run governments won’t let these assets dry up, no matter what the human cost is.

  16. Allergist K says:

It is not physicians but big pharma that benefits from patents on these drugs. It is a willingness to alter data or hide data. This is done to gain FDA approval in the US, which pleases stockholders and increases the bottom line. A relative few unscrupulous physician researchers prostitute themselves to these companies. It is greed winning over ethics as in all manner of big business.

    • Allergist. It is even worse than that, people who do not want to go along with it can be threatened at best with loss of job and bad references, with anything worse and at worse with loss of their life or that of family. Even worse than that is the Malthusian psychopathic mal-intent with regard for our health, fertility and our lives. It would not surprise me if people started to die off in the hordes in their fifties and forties and if very few people remain fertile enough to have children within the next decade or so. This will be because of our vaccination programmes, medications, our agro-chemical-pharma-toxic food industry…I do not think I need to go on as we are all relatively enlightened to be on these sites.

  17. JamesWilson says:

The People not the Professionals have been screaming this at the establishment for years, by establishment I mean those who took over Publishing of all Technical and Medical material . They have corrupted this just History and other important information the Public desperately needs to be correct and precise. They brag about controlling Education by controlling the Publishing. HAPPY NOW ? They have had control since the 1940’s

  18. Alan V. Schmukler says:

Meanwhile, the well Pharmaceutical cartel has been funding surrogate groups to discredit homeopathy and herbal medicine, even influencing government agencies to restrict the use of natural healing modes.

  19. Dr PRASHANT P SHAH says:

Modern medicine is negation to health.
