The decision was the outcome of the meeting of 15 member states of the AU’s Peace and Security Council (PSC) in Addis Ababa Tuesday.

Egypt is now able to participate in the PSC and the African Summit later this month in Guinea.

The Panel of the Wise of the AU had recommended Egypt return to the AU on June 13, urging Egypt to hold an inclusive dialogue with the opposition and release political prisoners.

A diplomatic Ethiopian source told Anadolu news agency May 30 that the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah discussed with his Ethiopian counterpart Tedros Adhanom the importance of lifting Egypt’s suspension, as well as investment projects in the African continent.

Adhanom told the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will visit Ethiopia in two weeks, according to Anadolu.

On his inauguration June 8, Sisi emphasized the importance of Egypt’s historic relations with its African neighbors and that he would not let the controversial Renaissance Dam harm the Egyptian-Ethiopian relations.
