Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov has called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the crimes committed by Turkish, Western and Gulf Arab backed terrorists against the residents of the city of Kessab and throughout Syria’s Lattakia province.
Thousands of fighters of the Al-Qaeda linked Jabhat al-Nusrah and other Turkish, Western and Gulf Arab backed Al-Qaeda brigades crossed the Turkish – Syrian border on March 21, killing almost hundred and displacing almost the entire population of the predominantly Armenian Syrian populated city of Kessab.
The only remaining Armenian Syrians left in Kessab are a few elderly residents who did not manage to escape, while most residents fled to an Armenian Christian monastery in Lattakia. Using his Twitter account the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said:
“An investigation into the shooting of Armenian residents in the city of Kessab by the gunmen must be conducted. … It is necessary that the Security Council discusses that as soon as possible”.
Turkish military supported the al-Nusrah and other al-Qaeda brigades with artillery, tank and missile fire, directed against Syrian army positions while the mercenaries crossed the border. Eyewitnesses reported to nsnbc international that Turkish special forces are fighting alongside the mercenaries, directing the artillery barrage.
Turkish F-16 fighter jets have been observed flying above Syrian territory. A Syrian Mig 23 fighter jet was shot down by Turkish F-16s over Syrian territory during the initial phases of the assault. The Turkish M.P., Mehmed Ali Ediboglu, reported that the Turkish military aided the fighters while they were crossing the border into Syria.
The Armenian M.P., Arman Sahakyan, who visited Syria with an Armenian delegation last week published an urgent appeal from Kessab residents, pleading not to submit Armenian Syrians in the Lattakia province of Syria to another genocide.
The ethnic cleansing in Kessab and Lattakia province and the war on Syria was also condemned by the President of Russia’s Chechen Republic, Akhmad Kadyrov. The Chechen President, who previously fought against Russia until he recognized that the Chechen war for autonomy had been coöpted by Western and Gulf Arab countries who aimed at encircling Russia and weakening pan-Arabist countries, stressed that these “Jihadists” who attacked Kessab, have absolutely nothing to do with Islam.
In a statement, following a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Council (SCO) in Tajikistan on Tuesday, Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shogyu said that Western and Gulf Arab countries continue their state sponsorship and arming of mercenary brigades in Syria. Shogyu stressed that the arming of the terrorists continues to worsen the crisis in the Middle Eastern country.
The Russian Defense Minister stressed that the majority, of gunmen in Syria, are foreign fighters, as it was the case in Libya in 2011. He added, that the fact, that many of the gunmen come from Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and other foreign countries cannot be ignored by the SCO.
Shogyu reiterated that Russia had repeatedly warned that any foreign interference in Syria would lead to catastrophic results for the entire region and cited the post coup developments in Libya as an example. Within that context, Shogyu said that Russia fully supports the Chinese initiative on forming a counterterrorism center under the auspices of the SCO.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab Army continues operations throughout the country. While the numbers of remaining Syrian fighters who were caught up in the fighting, and who surrender to Syrian authorities to have their cases settled and start a new life continues growing, the identity of killed or captured fighters, shows clearly that the vast majority of gunmen are foreign fighters, who are backed by core-NATO member and Gulf Arab states as well as Israel.
