Now Official: Israel supports Al-Qaeda from the Occupied Syrian Golan

Christof Lehmann (nsnbc) : In June 2013 an Austrian UNDOF officer warned that Israel maintains a joint operations room with “jihadists” in the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan and provides active combat support against the Syrian Army. Earlier this year, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, publicly called for “settling Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights within the framework of the Israeli – Palestinian negotiations” . On 19 February, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited a field hospital for “wounded Syrians” in the occupied Golan. The “wounded Syrians”, however, are predominantly fighters under the banners of Al-Qaeda linked brigades.

netanyahu_golan_hospital_February_19_2014_JP_israel_syria_nsnbc fileOn 19 February, the Israeli Jerusalem Post reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has visited a field hospital which the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have established for fighters, who have been injured in combat with Syrian military forces.

Palestinian and Syrian sources in the region have repeatedly reported that Israel is providing direct military aid to fighters under the banners of Jabhat al-Nusrah, Liwa-al-Islam, and other Al-Qaeda brigades.

This support includes medical services in the field hospital, which Netanyahu visited, a joint operations room, logistic and intelligence support as well as direct combat support for mercenaries who are infiltrating from the Israeli occupied Golan. This direct combat support includes Israeli special forces as well as artillery support.

In its article, the Jerusalem Post recognizes the fact that the hospital is providing medical services to the Jihadists. The newspaper quoted Netanyahu as saying that the hospital is a place which separates the good in the world from the evil in the world, implying the utilitarian ethics that Al-Qaeda fighters are good as long as they fight any government which Israel designates as “evil”.

The Jerusalem post also quotes Netanyahu as describing the IDF field hospital as good because it saves lives from the daily slaughter that is taking place in Syria, and as describing the field hospital as the true face of Israel. The Israeli prime minister is also quoted as saying that the evil is Iran, which is arming those who are carrying out the slaughter, while Netanyahu failed to address the fact that it has been documented that Israeli, Gulf-Arab and core NATO member backed “Holy Warriors” have been responsible for some of the worst massacres and atrocities during the more than three year-long war.

Asserting Israeli Sovereignty over the Syrian Golan Heights. The Israeli Prime Minister’s visit to the field hospital comes after Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, earlier this year, visited the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan. Lieberman called for:

settling the Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights within the framework of the Israeli – Palestinian negotiations” and added that “part of this comprehensive bargain has to cover an understanding between Israel, the international community and the USA” and adding that “the Golan is part and parcel with Israel”.

Lieberman’s statement prompted a stern response from the side of the Syrian government, which sent two identical letters to the offices of the UN Secretary General and the President of the UN Security Council, asking the UN to respond and to safeguard Syria’s international rights.

Lieberman’s  statement confirmed warnings from intelligence experts and analysts, who had stated, since 2011, that Israel is planning to permanently annex the Syrian Golan Heights, parts of Southern Lebanon and 97 % of the Palestinian West Bank.

GOLANThe Israeli Prime Minister implicitly confirms a statement, issued by an Austrian officer of the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) from June 2013.

The Austrian UNDOF officer stated that the scale of Israel’s support to the armed terrorist groups, which is spread through villages in the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan, is very large, and that the support includes all logistic, military and medical fields.

The officer affirmed the existence of a joint operations room between armed terrorist gangs and Israel. The joint operations-room has the function to coordinate the delivery of assistance to the terrorists and includes joint command and intelligence structures.

The UNDOF officer revealed that the disengagement zone between Syria and Israel was used to provide support for the gunmen, many of whom he said, came to Israel from neighboring countries over the last months and then moved into the occupied Syrian Golan Highs to reinforce the terrorist groups.

The Austrian officer also pointed towards tens of media reports and statements issued by leaders of terrorist groups which clearly disclosed the scale of the Israeli coordination with and support for armed gangs, not only through logistic and military assistance, but also through direct intervention in terms of launching attacks on Syrian sites. The June 2013 report was largely ignored by most western and Gulf-Arab media.

After Netanyahu’s visit and the Jerusalem Post article from today, 19 February 2014, however, it is safe to consider it as official, that Israel supports Al-Qaeda in and from the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
